After a long career in Formula 1 stretching back to 2002 where he was employed as a staff writer at Formula 1 Publishing’s Official Formula 1 Magazine, the end of 2024 saw him move to IndyCar with Fox Sports for the 2025 season.
On March 3, after covering the first race of the season, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg, the former F1TV pundit posted to X (formerly Twitter) with a message of appreciation to his followers.
"Want to take a minute to thank the fans, both at home, here on social and at the track, who have been so warm, welcoming and positive about my move to Indycar," he wrote. "It means more than you’ll ever know."

The race weekend saw Team Penske's Scott McLaughlin take poll, but after an exciting race it was reigning IndyCar champion Alex Palou who took the win at the season opener. The Spanish driver exhibited strong race pace and clean driving on the day, converting what was a disappointing qualifying result of eighth into a confident start to the season.
Buxton, alongside James Hinchcliffe and Townsend Bell, commentated on his campaign, in what was Fox Sport's first coverage of the sport.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be embarking on this new and incredibly exciting opportunity to return to FOX, exactly 15 years after SPEED Channel offered a young and very green reporter his first break on network TV," Buxton said at the time through a statement. "I've been a fan of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES for as long as I've been watching racing cars and have always marveled at the skill and bravery of its incredible drivers.
"To have the chance to tell their stories and call their races is a dream come true, and something I never imagined I'd have the honor of doing. It's a tremendous responsibility, and not one I take lightly."

This follows the news that the pundit hopes he continues to be a part of Drive to Survive, despite not being part of F1's coverage of the 2025 season.
“To be honest with you, I don’t know," he admitted in an interview with The Independent. “They’ve always been very careful not to show me in situ in the paddock, I’ve always just been a talking head in a room.
“So, I guess that could continue [with me] if they wanted to. I actually really hope we can, that would be lovely.
“I’m not just going to walk out of the F1 paddock and suddenly not talk to everybody that I have worked with. I’ll be back throughout the year, not on a TV screen with F1, but I’ll be going to some races.
“The fun part for me this year, ahead one of the most exciting F1 seasons in a long time, is I get to enjoy this one as a fan. That’s really exciting for me.”
