Jorge Martin has provided an update on his injury recovery following two surgeries that forced him to miss the 2025 MotoGP season opener in Thailand.

The reigning champion initially suffered a horrific crash during pre-season testing in Sepang which resulted in surgery for fractures in his left foot and right hand. Martin had shown great progress in his recovery; however, another crash a week before the Thai MotoGP caused fractures in his left wrist.

As the Spanish rider continues to recover from the second surgery, it is still unclear when he will return. While visiting Milan for the launch of the Aprilia Tuono 457, Martin appeared on the team's Instagram Story where he stated that he is "trying to be back as soon as possible." He explained:

“I’m here in Motoplex for the first time, also wearing the t-shirt of Aprilia racing for the first time. I’m working hard, it’s been a difficult time, but I’m trying to be back as soon as possible. We don’t know exactly when I will be back but I will try to do it soon. I hope to see you all really soon.”

Aprilia team principal Massimo Rivola explained ahead of the season that Martin would definitely not be in Argentina. However, it is yet to be confirmed if he will miss the United States round on 28-31 March. Rivola commented at the time to TNT Sports:

"According to what the doctor said – and luckily he was in very good hands – everything went right and now it’s time to just wait for the recovery.

"The fracture was quite bad. Normal people would take a lot of time but superheroes [are] like riders and Jorge will cut a lot of time [off a normal recovery timeframe], but for sure we won’t put him on the bike if he’s not in very good shape."

He added:

"I don’t know [when he will be back], for sure not in Argentina, so I think in Argentina we’ll have Sava [Lorenzo Savadori] again to replace him, and then we will see. I think we will need to see every week, every day how he is recovering and then looking at his season and his career and his history with Aprilia with a long-term vision more than a short-term vision."

Martin joins Aprilia after a four-year stint with Pramac Racing. He joins the team on a two-year deal.
